Smoothies

Rewind five years ago, green juice used to be all the skinny girls used to have. But apparently, juices are not as nutritious as smoothies 'cos they lack the fibre of the fruits which pack lots of nutrients that you actually filter out of juices. So now, smoothies are all the hype. Watch any YouTube guru's morning routine and you see them making themselves these smoothies because Gurl, I'm so healthy. I take fruits and baby spinach everyday.

This is actually kind of a late post but nevertheless, I felt like I needed to blog it. Late 2014, I was so harped on the idea of getting a blender to make all those smoothies and my dad was slightly reluctant to my newfound hobby, his fatherly instinct was telling him this was going to be just another temporary hobby of mine. But, he still got me one for Christmas 2014. A blender. Hoping I'd take this opportunity to start having breakfast everyday.

I got all excited, went out to the supermarket, got coconut water, mixed berries, bananas, mango, greek yoghurt, chia seeds, etc. Yup, so anyway, I start making these every morning for the whole famz. Towards the beginning, I used to think to myself "it tastes gross but I'm going to drink this up 'cos it costed a bomb" and probably so did the rest 'cos everyone just slurped it right down before leaving the house.

Gradually, it came to a halt. I think to myself, what's the point of blending all these fruits into coconut water (and not enjoying it) when I can cut up fresh fruits and have them between meals? They taste better to me that way anyway.

I just don't get smoothies. I don't get why they're so popular. Is the trend here to stay? I'm not sure it will. To me, it's just a phase like the 'frozen yoghurt' phase. Although I still have froyo runs, probably not the same for smoothies in my case. If you know of any recipes of really yummy smoothies, please do leave it down below so I can try it out.
